Prashant Dubey is CEO of The Sumati Group. For the 25 years prior, he was an executive at Fios, Tripwire, and Baxter. He is published on the role of GC's, and on the subject of Legal Process Optimization. He has co-authored, Litigation Readiness: A Practical Approach to Electronic Discovery (Oxford University Press, 2011). He holds a BA, Economics, and an MBA, Strategy from the University of Chicago.Eva Kripalani provides guidance to corporations in areas such as law department management, corporate governance, ethics and compliance, and contract management. She spent 10 years as a partner at Stoel Rives, LLP. Until 2007, she served as Executive Vice President and General Counsel at Knowledge Learning Corporation (now Knowledge Universe-US).

The authors do a fantastic job explaining the ways a general counsel should think in order to succeed in a very easy-to-read manner. The books flows effortlessly and provides very interesting, real-life examples of outstanding GCs who have found their way, sometimes by trial and error. Their experiences fill the reader with invaluable insight that lawyers do not acquire simply by attending law school or working in private practice. GCs are unique in their responsibilities, goals, and contributions, and the authors do a great job illustrating these points. For my particular situation, this book was not directly on point, but those new to being in-house counsel of a large business will be very pleased with this small book.

The legal profession is changing dramatically and fast. And the forward thinking general counsel and their teams have been, and will, drive this change (they are spending the money). Prashant and Eva provide an excellent summary of the skills and experiences one will need if they want to be such a leader/general counsel. And for the outside counsel - it provides a great summary of the challenges we face, so that if you really want to help us and add value, you can develop ideas, plans and approaches to do so. Get ready - the good ole days are gone!!!

This was an excellent book. I really enjoyed the real life examples and information from attorneys that have worked for law firms and corporations. If you are thinking about going in- house it process some valuable insights.

Prolific insights into the pathways taken from law firm lawyer to in-house counsel. Through the lenses of numerous successful GC's you get a clear view of what it takes to be successful as an in-house lawyer.

This book is terrific! It describes the growing imporance of the role of the General Counsel, stressing how the GC is far more than "just a lawyer." It offers tips on how outside and inside counsel can work more efficiently together, and the skills necessary to be successful as a GC. A great read for lawyers, law students, and business executives!

This book is a must read for all experienced and new General Counsels. The authors did an amazing job of capturing the voices of GC pioneers. Very well written!!!
